If My Ántonia Inspires You, Read This (#WillaOnWednesday)

My Antonia by Willa Cather with new Introduction by Jane Smiley (WildmooBooks.com)
My Ántonia Vintage Classics 100th Anniversary Edition with Introduction by Jane Smiley (Now available)

I’m starting a new feature here on WildmooBooks and it will come as no surprise to regular readers of this blog that it involves one of my favorite writers, Willa Cather.

The name of the feature is — drum roll — please: WILLA ON WEDNESDAY. Clever, right? I’ll use the hashtag #WillaOnWednesday on Twitter, Instagram, etc. [Updated from #WillaWednesday, which is already a thing.]

With the increase in Willa Cather news, events, and my on-going reading of and about her, I thought it might be of interest to others to start sharing more of this information and just plain fun to have a regular feature focusing on this writer whose star continues to climb. And what better month to start than Women’s History Month.

I’m not exactly sure what Willa On Wednesday will entail. I imagine some posts might be reviews, others catch-all types, and some an announcement like this one.

This week’s feature is a Call for Submissions from the Willa Cather Foundation for writing and art inspired by My Ántonia, which celebrates it’s 100th book birthday in 2018.

Here’s the call:

If you’re inspired to submit a piece for this special issue of the Willa Cather Review, best of luck!

Thanks for reading! If you have suggestions or feedback about WILLA ON WEDNESDAY, I’d love to hear it.

  1. I think the question is will you be submitting a piece?! 😀 Hope you’re staying dry and warm down there sun is finally coming out in Boston.

    • Ha! I’m not sure, but it’s floating around in the back of my mind. We ended up with 11.5 inches and got power back around 10 this morning. Hope you’re dug out. I hear there might be another nor’easter on the way next week!
