This Saturday, April 28, 2018, is Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon!
I’ve participated in this readathon for a bunch of years now. Some years I’ve managed just a few hours of reading, other years much more. My record is 20 hours of reading (with some doggy play sessions in the yard throughout the day to keep my blood flowing).
This time around I’m reading one book: The Swarm by Frank Schatzing. I purchased this book on June 12, 2011 at the Borders store in Oakbrook, IL. How do I know this? The receipt was still in the book when I took it off my shelf earlier today and started looking it over (there was also a paycheck in there).
The Swarm is an 898-page techno-thriller about things going haywire in the world’s oceans. I talk about why I’ve put off reading this international best-seller in the video below. I’ll have two books by Rachel Carson on hand to “cleanse my palate” and re-right the world if necessary: The Edge of the Sea and Under the Sea-Wind.

What fun to read one big book for readathon. I’ve got too much going on to participate this Saturday, but I’m looking forward to how well your readathon works. Good idea to give it a hundred pages and permission to give up after that.
I didn’t read for as many hours as I’d planned to, but I did get 200 pages into The Swarm and am still enjoying it. Hope you had a good weekend!

As you know, I did participate in the readathon, with my favorite book being one that you recommended. So how did yours go? Were you able to put a dent in that tome? …or did you let it go?
I was happy to see that, Bryan! I did make a dent in it. Only 200 pages but I’m still trucking along in it and, at this time, plan to finish it. We’ll see. At 200 pages that’s only about 20% of the book so the tide could turn. 😉
