Two Quick Willa Cather Reminders

The Willa Cather Short Story Project October 2019 reminder: "A Wagner Matinée."

The Willa Cather Short Story Project

The second Wednesday of the month is upon us again so it’s time for your monthly Willa Cather Short Story Challenge reminder.

Our story for October is “A Wagner Matinée.”

This story was first published in the March 1904 edition of Everybody’s Magazine (Click here to read that version). Cather included it in her first short story collection, The Troll Garden (1905) and revised it for inclusion in Youth and the Bright Medusa (1920).

This is a short one, just over 3,000 words. It’s about a young man living in Boston whose aunt from Nebraska comes for a visit. She has a backstory. They see some Wagner together.

Read the story and come back to discuss it on the fourth Wednesday of the month, October 23, 2019. I’ll aim to have a post up early that morning.

The other reminder is for those of you in the Connecticut area.

The Willa Cather Book Club is meeting to to discuss The Professor’s House (1925) on Thursday, October 17th 24 (date change due to weather) at 2pm at the Wood Memorial Library & Museum in South Windsor, CT.

Thanks to Cynde of Book Club On the Go for continuing to sponsor the group and finding us a new home. Hope to see you there!
